January and February brought a brand-new elementary community, a sky full of stars, clay mountains, karate, a first taste of money skills and plenty of flour-dusted baking. Here is a look back at the moments we shared on our social channels.

A New Beginning: Our First Elementary HomeSchool Community

January marked a milestone for our school: the first week of the year with the very first generation of the Firefly Forest Elementary HomeSchool Community 2025. We celebrated the start of term with a short poem, “Firefly Forest: A New Beginning 2025”, which captured the feeling well: first steps in Kindergarten with laughter in the air, elementary doors opening wide, and first-generation dreams taking flight. New friendships began under green branches, with crayons, stories, giggles and cheers filling the days from soft morning whispers to afternoon fun. As the poem put it, at Firefly Forest School our journey has just begun. We also shared a short clip titled “This is the seed of growth”, which felt like the perfect way to describe a new class finding its feet.

Gratitude and a Growing Community

Our Circle of Gratitude sessions continued to be a gentle anchor in the week. Children come together to share what they are thankful for, building a sense of appreciation and connection that helps them notice the good things in their lives and grow a habit of gratitude. A second poem, “Firefly Forest: A Community Flourishes”, celebrated the wider circle that makes our school what it is: not just teachers and students, but friends side by side. Life lessons grow beyond the classroom walls, with parents as guides: some share their cooking, others teach building, and deep breaths remind us all to pause and reflect. In this nurturing space, every voice is valued and we grow together.

Night Sky Week and Clay Mountains

Our learning themes took us from the stars down to the ground beneath our feet. During Night Sky Week, children turned their attention upward and explored the wonders of the night sky through a week of activities.

Then it was time to get hands-on with geography. Exploring the world one clay mountain at a time, our little Adventurers shaped landforms with clay and discovered the wonders of the Earth in class. Building mountains with their own hands helps children understand shapes and landscapes in a way that a picture in a book never quite can.

Karate and First Lessons in Money

Karate remained a firm favourite. For at least one of our students, it is the most-loved subject of all. In January we also welcomed guest teachers Uncle Charl and Uncle Knight, who came to introduce the children to the basics of money and finance. A big thank you to them both! We are confident the children will have lots of fun and learn a great deal with them this year.

Kitchen Witchery and Cookie Class

Few things bring as many smiles as baking together. Our message in January was simple: happiness is homemade. Little hands got busy making and enjoying cookies together.

In February the fun continued with a Saturday playgroup session of the Firefly Forest School Kitchen Witchery class with T.Noon. Little hands, big smiles and flour-dusted glee: the children created delicious memories, shared their experiences and learned through hands-on baking. A cookie class the same week kept the kitchen busy and the smiles coming. Warmth and wonder abound at Firefly!

A Little Loy Krathong That Became Songkran

One afternoon we held a small Loy Krathong celebration at school. It did not stay calm for long: before we knew it, the floating of krathongs had turned into a full Songkran-style water fight! It was one of those joyful, unplanned moments that make childhood so special, and the children were simply adorable.

Would your child love days like these?
